The projects are part of Denmark's preparation for the implementation of the European Health Data Space Regulation. The regulation requires Member States to be able to exchange relevant health data securely with other EU countries so that a healthcare professional or pharmacist in another EU country can access relevant information relating to medical treatment or dispensing of medicines.
As part of the projects, Denmark will be connected to the common European eHealth Digital Service Infrastructure (eHDSI). eHDSI is a secure European infrastructure which facilitates the cross-border exchange of health data between Member States. At the beginning of January 2026, 17 countries had one or more solutions in routine operations, exchanging health data across borders with one or more other countries.
The Danish Health Data Authority is implementing two projects, each comprising two digital solutions – electronic prescriptions and patient summaries – for Danes receiving medical treatment in other EU countries as well as for citizens from other EU countries receiving treatment in Denmark.
The projects form part of the common European MyHealth@EU initiative aimed at supporting patient safety, continuity and quality of care for citizens who need medicines or healthcare while visiting another EU country.
