Health data is increasingly being exchanged across sectors and organisations in order to give healthcare professionals easy access to relevant information for the benefit of the patient. Standardisation ensures that the many different IT systems can communicate effectively.
In collaboration with the different actors of the healthcare sector The Danish Health Data Authority is responsible for setting the framework for IT architectures and propose and maintain national standards for use within healthcare. The approved standards are published in a catalogue that provides an overview of required standards for IT systems in the Danish healthcare system.
When exchanging information in healthcare IT, it is essential that standardisation take place in accordance to a coherent data and IT architecture in order to create continuity for the patients. This consistency is ensured by developing reference architectures that describe the context in which the standards are to be applied.
Advisory Committee on Standards and Architecture
The Advisory Committee on Standards and Architecture deals with national projects, architectures and standards to ensure coherence and interoperability in digital solutions within Danish healthcare. The Danish Health Data Authority holds the chairmanship of the committee and provides secretariat service.
